Lesbian Couples

Congratulations on your very exciting decision to become a family! Welcoming a baby into your life is one of life’s greatest joys and we are honored to be a part of your journey.

Our warm and caring staff will work closely with you to provide you the best possible care, answer all of your questions, and ensure you have everything you need during the transition of becoming a family.

During our initial consultations we’ll gain an understanding of your individual health histories, your dreams for becoming parents, and explain the treatment options offered at IRH. There are two options for becoming a parent for single women or as lesbian couples that want to experience pregnancy and childbirth: Artificial/Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) or In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF). You can find information about each process on our sister website, Cincinnati Gay Parents. If you are interested, we can also explain the process of using a surrogate to achieve a healthy pregnancy and delivery.

Many lesbian couples want both parties to participate in the process of childbearing and opt for IVF, sometimes referred to as Reciprocal IVF or Co-maternity IVF. As Cincinnati’s most highly regarded IVF center, our experienced staff is happy to work with you so that one woman in the partnership provides the eggs and the other partner carries the baby.

Gay Male Couples

We are honored to help you begin your journey to parenthood. We know this is a big, emotional decision and that it may have already been a long road to get this far. Our warm and caring staff is here to help all Cincinnati gay parents achieve your goals to build a loving family.

Our talented and experienced staff will work closely with you to provide you the best possible care, answer all of your questions, and ensure you have everything you need during the transition of becoming a family.

Becoming a father as a gay man requires the assistance of a gestational carrier and an egg donor. Using the process of In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) with a donor egg, sperm from either partner, and a gestational carrier, you can become parents. For legal simplicity, we encourage all the Cincinnati gay parents that we work with to choose different women to be the egg donor and the gestational carrier. We are able to connect all of our patients interested in these treatment options to egg donors and gestational carriers.

You can find information about each the IVF process on our website, Cincinnati Gay Parents

Transgender Couples

Our warm, caring and experienced staff understand the special medical and emotional issues that transgender patients can face when they are ready to start their family. We will always take great care to ensure treatments coincide appropriately with hormone therapy and any other medical procedures you may need.

We will work closely with you throughout the process to provide the best possible care, answer all of your questions, and ensure you have everything you need during the transition of becoming a family.

For male to female transgender patients, a pregnancy is achieved through In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) with a donor egg, a patient’s own or donor sperm, and a gestational carrier. For patients considering this transition, we can arrange to freeze sperm prior to hormonal therapy or surgery to keep your biologic parenting options open.

For female to male transgender patients, we can help start your family using your own eggs or donor eggs, a partner’s sperm or donor sperm, and either your own uterus or a gestational carrier. Sometimes parenthood is achieved with IUI therapy (artificial insemination, donor insemination) with either a partner’s sperm or donor sperm. If you are considering transitioning from female to male with surgery or hormone therapy, we encourage learn about freezing your eggs first in order to keep your biologic parenting options open.
