08.20.2010 25 years and counting

Congratulations to IRH's Dr Awadalla for 25 years of infertility practice.  Dr Awadalla was there from the early days of IVF in the United States.  The first US birth from IVF was in late 1981 and Dr Awadalla began his IVF work in 1985 at the Ohio State University.  In those days IVF was a lot harder to do and a lot less successful.  After more than 2 decades of work, he is happy to say that we are now more often successful than not.  Dr Awadalla is grateful for the tremendous patience and courage of those first patients who with their doctors pioneered the procedure.

Dr. Awadalla is also happy that he had an opportunity to meet in person Dr. Patrick Steptoe a British gynecologist who pioneered the procedure.

2009 Baby Party

Our 2009 baby party was held at the Cincinnati Zoo on October 24th.  More than 500 people attended.  More than 1000 hot dogs and hamburgers were consumed.  The staff was delighted to meet some of our new additions and also to visit with some of the children who are now teenagers.  We all appreciated seeing our patients from Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana and West Virginia.  Many thanks to those who traveled great distances to join in the celebration.  We have now had more than 5,000 births from IVF and many more from lesser technologies.  Our next party will be 2011!!  Hope to see you there.

Dr Scheiber was interviewed by Sheila Gray on Fox19 about our new book: The Fast Track to Fertility.  Dr. Scheiber shared insights on the book's focus which is that accurate diagnosis and treatment are the road to success.  He also answered questions about the recent octuplet birth.

02.13.2009 Egg Donation

Dr Awadalla was interviewed by Fox 19's Brad Underwood about egg donation.  There is more interest in egg donation due to the economic down turn.  Dr. Awadalla stated that this is a win win situation.  Donors are compensated $3,500 per donation.  Meanwhile the recipients have a much shorter waiting time to receive donated eggs.  Egg donation is a highly efficient strategy for conception for women 39 or more years of age.  While the uterus remains resilient over time, the function of the ovaries decreases after age 35 slightly and greatly after age 40.

Baby Bash 2007

Many thanks to all who attended this year's baby party at Burger farm in Newtown. This wonderful event was held on Saturday October 6th. More than 1,000 adults and about 900 babies were there. The center has now generated more than 5,000 babies from in vitro fertilization procedures. It was a fantastic day for our staff to have a chance to visit with the families we have worked with so closely. Many traveled considerable distances for the event. We had many families from Lexington, Louisville, Dayton and Columbus in addition to our local couples.

Baby Bash 2005

Our 2005 baby reunion happened on Saturday October 29th. This year it was held at Berger Farm with a Halloween theme.  Approximately 1,500 parents, children and staff attended. We had fabulous weather. We all enjoyed the fall weather and the many activities at Berger farm.  The children ranged from 4 weeks old to 15 years of age. It was a wonderful opportunity for the staff to visit with previous patients. The center has now experienced more than 4,000 babies born from IVF and other high tech procedures such as embryo cropreservation. Thousands more births have resulted from "low tech" procedures such as ovulation drugs and insemination. The Cincinnati Enquirer was on hand to commemorate the event. Below are some photos from the event.  This is our 17th such gathering. If you missed it this year make sure you attend next year!!

Baby Bash 2004

Our 16th annual baby reunion was held at Parky's farm on September 12. We had over 1,000 in attendance including several hundred beautiful babies.  Parents, babies, doctors nurses and lab staff enjoyed beautiful weather.  This year the inflatable "bouncy" Gym was a great hit as were the pony rides. It was a real treat for the center staff to see our patients and their babies some who were just a few days old! The center has to date experienced over 3,000 IVF births. This is our chance to see a few of them on a regular basis. Above are some photos from the event. The Cincinnati Enquirer and Channel 19 were on hand to make note of this momentous occasion.
